OTTAWA - Charles A. "Choppy," Aussem, 74, of Ottawa, died Tuesday, Dec. 19, at La Salle County Nursing Home.

Mass of Christian burial will be at 10 a.m. Friday at St. Patrick's Church with the Rev. Steven Loftus officiating. Burial will be at St. Columba Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Ottawa Funeral Home with prayers at 7 and the Knights of Columbus in attendance.

Mr. Aussem was born Aug. 2, 1932, in Ottawa, to Charles E. and Sara E. (Kossow) Aussem. He married Donna Fitzgerald on Oct. 2, 1954, at St. Mary's Church in Dimmick.

He was an insurance and investment consultant and was a member of St. Patrick's Church and the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his wife; two daughters, Mary (John) Levy of Ottawa and Cathy (Dennis) Kennedy of Sarasota, Fla.; five sons, Charles, Daniel (Susan), Timothy (Luanne) and Steven, all of Ottawa, and Michael (Sandra) of Palatine; 18 grandchildren, Charles, Stephanie, Sara, Melanie, Daniel, Melissa, Steven, Jeffery, Michael, Emily and Lauren Aussem, Jennifer (Jon) Leigh, Edward, Bridgette and Tyler Levy, John and Catibeth Poggi and Luke Kennedy; two great-grandchildren, Gianna Leigh and Logan Cheatham; a sister, Mary Ann (William) Schwarzbach of Rockford; and two brothers, James (Mary Jane) and Richard (Margaret) Aussem, both of Ottawa.

He was preceded in death by a sister, Joyce Livingston.

Pallbearers will be his seven grandsons.

Memorials may be directed to St. Patrick's School.
